Upon enrolment, student are tested to determine their level of English proficiency. Each student is then placed in one of three language levels. (Those with TOEFL (550) or Michigan Test (PASS) are exempted). Upon graduating from level three, students are eligible for placement within the academic program of the college. The schedule hours for IEP are as follows:

Time Frame

Students are expected to progress from Level 1 (Elementary) to Level 3 (Upper Intermediate) in total of 3 semesters.

Approx. 36 weeks (180 hours)

Note : Mid-term enrolment is permitted, but students are strongly encouraged to enter the programs at the beginning of the semester in order to complete a full session of study.

    Focus - Level 1

    To implement such methods as necessary to ensure all levels of ability are given equal opportunity to make progress. Students should be quickly familiarised with the basic mechanics of English in all skills and be encouraged to approach their studies with the goal of entering the academic program in mind.

    Focus - Level 2

    Consolidation of the basics should compliment depth of development. Confident use of all general English skills should aid progress in specialized language use preparing students for Level 3.

    Focus - Level 3

    Use of English for Academic Purposes should be emphasised such as, producing accurate grammatical structures, critical analysis of text and coherent expression of written and spoken ideas.
