An emphasis is placed on the development of effective writing skills using the time honored conventions of general composition in addition to those techniques more suitable for business and management. The communication courses are delivered to meet the specific needs of the students as regards their proficiency in self expression required by the various employment contexts in which they are likely to become engaged.
Graduates holding the Bachelor Degree in English have the prospect of either continuing studies at a higher level or entering the workplace in a professional capacity. Those who choose to continue studies may proceed to the level of Master of Arts or transfer to one of the different fields of academic work that are offered. Graduates will succeed in obtaining employment where the medium is English. Positions that require interaction with non-Arabic speakers will need to be filled by graduates who have majored in English. This means that banks, travel agencies, hotels, airlines, museums and galleries, and diverse places of cultural interest will be valuable avenues for fluent English speakers to make a career. Furthermore, administrative positions such as government offices or ministries will always require employees who are proficient in technical and business writing. Translation, too, will be a valuable career alternative at the administrative level.
