  • CS 72
    Software Application on the PC (Lect 3.0)

    An introduction to operating systems, word processing, spread sheets, and data base manipulation. A post baccalaureate course designed for teachers and persons in related occupations. The course is offered subject to sufficient demand. This course cannot be used toward a computer science degree.

  • MATH 4
    College Algebra (Lect 3.0)

    A study of linear equations, rational functions, radicals, quadratic equations, inequalities, determinants, progressions, theory of equations, permutations, combinations, and the binomial theorem.

    Prerequisite: Placement examination.


First Year Semester I

  • CS 53
    Introduction to Programming (Lect 3.0)

    Programming design and development using C++. Emphasis is placed on problem solving methods using good programming practices and algorithm design and development. Topics included are syntax/ semantics, logical, relational and arithmetic operators, decision branching, loops, functions, file I/O, arrays, output formatting, C-strings, and an introduction to Object-Oriented Programming, including the development and use of classes.

    Prerequisite: CS 72 and MATH 4.
  • MATH 6
    Trigonometry (Lect 2.0)

    A study of trigonometric functions, radian measure, graphing trigonometric functions, identities, trigonometric equations and inverse trigonometric functions. Solutions of general triangles and trigonometric representation of complex numbers are included.

    Prerequisite: MATH  4.
  • PSYCH 50
    General Psychology (Lect 3.0)

    This course is an introduction to the science of the human mind and behaviour. Topics include brain structure and function, human development, learning and memory, motivation, emotion, personality and psychological health, psychological disorders and their treatment, and social cognition and human relationships.


  • ENG 20
    Exposition and Argumentation

    The development of techniques for tertiary level essay writing with special emphasis on remedial grammar and paragraph structure.

  • SPMS 85
    Introduction to Speech

    An examination of English expression through verbal communication, listening comprehension, and dialogue. The course will focus on the appropriate forms of interaction that are suitable for specific occasions.


First Year Semester II

    Special Topics (Variable)

    This course is designed to give the department an opportunity to test a new course.

  • CS 153
    Data Structures I (Lect 3.0)

    Students are provided with a continuation of the development of structured programming concepts and their use in program development. Stacks, queues, linked list, arrays, trees, sorting and searching will be taught together with their use in implementations of a number of algorithms.

    Prerequisite: Grade “C” or higher in CS 53.
  • MATH 8
    Calculus with Analytic Geometry I (Lect 5.0)

    A study of limits continuity, differentiation and integration of algebraic and trigonometric functions. Applications of these concepts in physical as well as mathematical settings are considered.

    Prerequisites: Math 6, Math 4.

    Economic Development in the Gulf States

    Principles and concepts of economic growth and development; theories of economic development; the economic changes since the 1990s; factors of growth and development in the Gulf countries; employment, health, education and training, and entrepreneurship and its role in the development of the region; natural resources: petroleum and its significance in the development of the region.

    Business Ethics

    This course gives a general introduction to ethical foundations and examines the major ethical theories including utilitarianism, rights and justice. The course emphasizes both the philosophical foundations of ethical conduct and the practical problems encountered by corporations in modern market economies. It focuses on specific ethical problems that arise in corporations, such as the social responsibilities of business, responsibilities of being truthful in business, problems concerning product, and problems concerning employment and the workplace.
